Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has closed three major roads for six and a half hours on Sunday, 1 November, for Dubai Ride 2026. If you're driving in the city centre that morning, expect the closures between 3am and 9.30am and plan a different route in advance.

The ride returns as the opening weekend of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, and Sheikh Zayed Road becomes a cycling track for the event. The RTA says disruption is expected throughout the closure window, so it's worth leaving early or taking the Metro if you can.

Key points
  • Sheikh Zayed Road, Lower Financial Centre Street and one direction of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard close from 3am to 9.30am on Sunday, 1 November.
  • The RTA suggests four alternative routes: Upper Financial Centre Street, Zabeel Palace Street, Al Wasl Road and Al Khail Road.
  • Dubai Metro starts at 3am and runs until midnight, with a minimum nol balance of Dh30 advised.
  • Riders need a bib number, and the 12km and 4km routes open at 6.15am.
  • Organisers advise arriving between 4am and 6am, especially for drivers heading to a start gate.

Which roads are closed

The RTA has closed the following roads for the event:

  • Sheikh Zayed Road between Trade Centre junction and Al Safa Bridge
  • Lower Financial Centre Street between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road
  • One direction of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard

Motorists have been asked to follow traffic signs and directions during the closures, and the RTA has published a map showing the affected roads.

Alternative routes for drivers

The RTA has named four alternative routes you can use instead:

  • Upper Financial Centre Street
  • Zabeel Palace Street
  • Al Wasl Road
  • Al Khail Road

Extended Metro hours

Dubai Metro will run longer on Sunday, starting at 3am and continuing until midnight. If you're heading to the event, make sure your nol card has at least Dh30 on it to cover the return trip. The RTA has also asked passengers to let others exit trains before boarding and to avoid blocking platforms and train doors.

Timings for riders

The event starts at 6am, and the cycling routes open at 6.15am. There are two routes:

  • A 12km route along Sheikh Zayed Road for more experienced cyclists
  • A 4km Downtown Family Route for children, families and beginners

The event is free, but every participant needs a bib number, and riders without one won't be allowed on the routes. All riders are expected to start by 7.30am, and the routes close at 8am. Organisers advise arriving between 4am and 6am, particularly if you're driving to a designated start gate, since late arrivals risk missing the start because of the early road closures.
