News Today Desk
Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed, chairwoman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, has met Emirati scholarship students studying at leading South Korean universities. The meeting came at the end of her visit to Seoul, where she led a high-level delegation of government leaders and officials.
Her message to the students was clear: use Korea's scientific and technological strengths, then bring that expertise home to serve the UAE.
Sheikha Latifa spoke with the students about their academic progress, areas of specialisation and what it's like to study in Korea. She was also briefed on the country's higher education and research sector.
The students are enrolled in a range of technical programmes:
Maryam Al Hammadi, Minister of State and Secretary General of the UAE Cabinet, attended the meeting. So did Aisha Miran, director general of Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), along with other members of the delegation.
Sheikha Latifa praised the students for representing their country abroad. "Our scholarship students embody the UAE's values in the communities where they study," she said. "We take pride in their dedication and ambition. The knowledge and expertise they gain will shape their personal and professional growth, while contributing to the opportunities we create for future generations."
She commended the discipline and passion the students have shown, as well as their commitment to excelling in modern sciences. She encouraged them to keep working hard and to make full use of Korea's scientific and technological advances, so they can return with world-class expertise and best practices.
According to the reports, she added that those capabilities would help drive innovation, strengthen the UAE's competitiveness and support its growth as a centre for knowledge and advanced technology.
Emirates 24/7 reported that Sheikha Latifa reaffirmed the UAE leadership's commitment to investing in national talent and helping Emiratis access high-quality education at top global universities. She described young people's knowledge, abilities and ambition as essential to the country's continued development and its ability to advance across priority sectors.
The discussions also touched on the support and resources available to help Emirati students succeed academically and make the most of their educational opportunities. The sources don't detail what those resources are, so students and families should check directly with their sponsoring bodies.
The students thanked Sheikha Latifa for visiting and for taking an interest in their academic experiences and aspirations. They said the meeting encouraged them to pursue academic excellence and to apply what they learn in service of the UAE's future.
The meeting was one part of a broader Dubai delegation to Seoul. The National reports it included representatives from Dubai Future Foundation, Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Digital Authority and other government organisations.
Emirates 24/7 gives a fuller list. It names The Executive Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Dubai Health, Dubai Health Authority, the Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Future Foundation, Dubai Police, Al Jalila Foundation, Dubai Municipality and Dubai Digital Authority. It also lists the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, Dubai Media Council, Dubai Resilience Centre, the Economic Security Center of Dubai and Dubai Chambers.
The reports say the visit fits Dubai's approach of engaging with advanced international models, expanding partnerships with leading institutions and using the knowledge gained to drive development priorities. It also reinforces the emirate's standing as a global hub for business, innovation and the knowledge economy.
For residents, the practical significance is in the fields the students are studying. Artificial intelligence, data analysis and digital technologies are areas the UAE has signalled as priorities, and the students are expected to return and apply their training locally. The sources don't give timelines or specific projects, so there's no announced policy change tied to this meeting.
