Global gold was also moving on the same day. The Khaleej Times reported that the global spot price was up 0.44 per cent at $3,947.34 per ounce as of 9.10am UAE time, and that the 24K price in Dubai had traded at Dh476.25, up from Dh473.25 at the previous close, according to Dubai Jewellery Group data.
Analyst Tony Sage, CEO of Critical Metals, said markets were pricing in a 75 per cent probability of a US Federal Reserve rate hike in December, with a further increase expected next year. Higher interest rates tend to weigh on gold, so the market is watching the Fed closely.
Sage also pointed to oil and the Middle East. Progress toward a US and Iran deal, and a sustained fall in oil prices, could ease inflation worries and soften expectations for tighter monetary policy. Higher crude prices or stronger inflation signals could push yields up and weigh on gold.
Investors are likely to watch the outcome of the US midterm elections and any Fed comments in the coming weeks. Sage said central banks have continued to buy gold, adding a net 321 tonnes in the third quarter, the fastest pace since late 2024. That demand could support a recovery if rate-hike expectations ease.
