Rain may fall in Sharjah, Fujairah and Khor Fakkan today, while fog may form in Dubai and Abu Dhabi overnight.
The NCM expects convective clouds to build over eastern and northern areas this afternoon. These clouds can bring showers, so Sharjah, Fujairah and Khor Fakkan are the places to watch. Rain could also fall in the mountain areas, according to the forecast reports.
Expect showers in the east and north this afternoon, and take extra care on the roads if you are driving in fog early in the morning. Reduced speed limits may be in force.
Showers are possible today in eastern and northern parts of the UAE, including Sharjah, Fujairah and Khor Fakkan, while fog or mist may form in Dubai and Abu Dhabi overnight. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) says the weather will stay fair to partly cloudy for most of the country on Wednesday, 4 November.
The unsettled weather is not limited to today. Rain is possible across parts of the UAE from Wednesday to Saturday, with the heaviest chances in the east and north. The NCM says Sunday should be fair to partly cloudy, with no rain forecast.
Humidity is the main reason for the fog. The NCM says it could reach 90 per cent in coastal and inland areas overnight and into Thursday morning, raising the chance of fog or mist in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Visibility may drop further at times.
The NCM issued red and yellow fog alerts covering large parts of Abu Dhabi, including Liwa, Hameem, Razeen and Nahil, as well as parts of Al Ain and areas bordering Dubai. The alert was in effect until 9am on Wednesday.
Dubai is expected to reach 35ºC on Wednesday, while Abu Dhabi could also hit 35ºC and Sharjah 34ºC. Overnight lows are forecast at 25ºC in Dubai, 26ºC in Abu Dhabi and 24ºC in Sharjah. Inland areas could reach 35ºC to 38ºC during the day, while mountain regions may stay between 23ºC and 31ºC.
Abu Dhabi Police switched on speed reduction systems on several major roads during the fog. The limit was lowered to 80km/h on the Abu Dhabi to Al Ain road between Al Saad Bridge and Al Amerah Bridge, and on Sweihan road between Al Shamkha Bridge and the Zayed Military City roundabout. The reduced limit was also in place on Umm Al Zumoul road between Al Quaa and Bu Qrayh.
Police urge drivers to follow the reduced limits, keep a safe distance and stay alert to changing road conditions. Winds may also kick up dust at times, so keep an eye on visibility on Friday, when the NCM says stronger winds of up to 40km/h could blow dust.
